In 2002 a number of heads of Cambridge Centres in Southern Africa decided to form an association to assist and support each other. The new association was seen by Mr Ray Howarth (the CIE representative in South Africa at the time) as a voice which could speak on behalf of Cambridge schools in Southern Africa.
A constitution was drawn up and the first AGM was held on 28 February 2003.
The Association
Each member school/centre may put forward a representative to attend the AGM. The representative may stand for election and if elected may be part of the executive committee.
One person per member school may vote. Potential executive members are valued and welcome. The executive members are people who hold key positions in their schools, with very full timetables, and who give up their precious time to manage the affairs of ACESA. They meet quarterly and respond to the many emails that are sent to ACESA.
Why Cambridge?
Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds, and forms part of the University of Cambridge. As a world leader in providing international programmes and qualifications for school education, we are expanding our international team in Sub-Saharan Africa. Having a dedicated local team is an important part of supporting our growing community of over 1000 Cambridge schools.
How do we assist Southern African Cambridge Member Schools?
We encourage ACESA teachers to share their knowledge, expertise, and experience by participating in the ACESA Subject Discussion Groups and forums, training courses and workshops that have been created specifically for this purpose. This allows all our members the opportunity to exchange ideas and share their knowledge with colleagues across regions, schools and subject-specific areas. This serves to ensure that we harness a methodology of continuous improvement and innovation amongst ourselves as best-practice global practitioners and teachers.
